It’s hot. It’s really stinkin’ hot. Duh, I live in Phoenix – of course it’s hot! I’m not allowing myself to be surprised by how hot it is, or wallow in pity that I live somewhere so stinkin’ hot.
So I’ve decided to challenge myself! And no, the challenge is not ‘how long can I go without A/C for melting into a puddle.’ I’ve done that challenge before, and it never ends well.
My challenge is a new thing I’m calling ‘Weather Wednesday.’ On Weather Wednesday, I have to save as much money as the high temperature here in Phoenix.
Say what?? Yup, I’m going to try to save as much money as is the highest recorded temperature for Wednesday. Yesterday, it looks like the high ended up “only” being 99 degrees. Saving 99 in one day might sound like a lot or a little to you, but to me it is a lot.
If you think about it, it’s probably going to be at least 100 degrees from here until about September (only September, if I’m lucky), so I’ll be saving at least $400 a month with Weather Wednesdays.
But… It’s not Wednesday
Right, you’ll probably notice it’s not Wednesday. One reason for this is I have a blog posting scheduling, and I’m sticking to it!
Really, the other reason is just that temperatures aren’t ‘set’ until Wednesday afternoon, and I’d like to have some time to write a post and edit it, before throwing it all helter-skelter online. I could throw up a half completed post Wednesday night, or a better, more complete post on Thursday. I like the second option more!
Plus, it makes me more accountable. If I got up Wednesday morning and called the first temperature I saw (around 90 degrees) as Weather Wednesday, that wouldn’t accurately reflect the possible high of 114 degrees (yes, it does get that hot here). This ensures I’m saving the ‘high’ of the day temperature, in dollars.
I’m excited to have Weather Wednesdays as a goal, because for the past several months I’ve been hovering around saving $350-$400 a month. I’m looking forward to being accountable to the blog (and you guys!) to force myself to save more. Obviously, I want to save for myself, but it’s always nice to have an extra push – and this will be that extra motivation to save more!
How about you? Do you personally love the hot weather, or do you sometimes need extra motivation to enjoy it? If so, maybe Weather Wednesdays is something you should try! If you do, let me know, and we can bond over saving and the hot weather!
