Happy New Year!! Did you all have a nice New Year’s Eve? Did you side hustle and drive for Uber or Lyft? I was reading about the surge pricing for Uber and was blown away by how much it costs as a rider… and how much you could make as a driver!
If I weren’t so worried about being a smaller woman driving belligerent drunk people around, I would totally do it. I wasn’t very good at managing my drunk friends in college, so I probably wouldn’t be a very good rideshare driver. However, if you’re like Harry of The Ride Share Guy, it seems like a pretty good gig!
I have to admit, I really love the new year. I actually like making resolutions! I like writing them down and charting them throughout the year… even if I only keep half of them.
This year, I splurged and bought myself a Day Designer planner by Whitney English. I love her day designer, but I kept trying to make regular planners work… and failed miserably. This year, I bought the Day Designer and am already in love with it. Some people like apps and computer planners – I love my pen and paper planner 🙂
On to the December recap and January goals!
Get Sunburnt Saver organized – My goal for this was to have post ideas written down for January, February, and March. I’m really excited to say: PASS! There are times when I just can’t think of any more post ideas, so it’s nice to be a few months ahead and not have to constantly be thinking of my next post because I don’t have anything planned.
Reach 900 views in December – Turns out, 900 pageviews was too ambitious of a goal during the holidays: FAIL. I did get 792 views, which is 65 pageviews over November’s numbers though, so that’s something!
Make Weather Wednesdays goal – Let’s see!
December 3: 76 degrees
December 10: 77 degrees
December 17: 61 degrees
December 24: 66 degrees
December 31: 50 degrees
For a total of $330 in Weather Wednesday. I was able to save… $253. FAIL.
I would be really disappointed by that, but I actually had a $400 repair on my car… which I didn’t expect. Instead of dipping into my emergency savings, I just paid for it out of December’s savings. So if you look at it this way, I would have been able to save $653 🙂
Spend no more than $100 on date nights – 100% PASS! The car expense came at the beginning of the month, which gave me an extra incentive to not want to go out and eat. Also, the holidays helped, since we ate a lot of food at both of our parents’ houses 🙂
Take pictures at Christmastime – I took a ton of photos at Christmas and on New Year’s! PASS! I’m really excited about that, because every year I make a family calendar based on the previous year’s photos. When I made this year’s family calendar, I realized I didn’t have enough photos to fill the calendar from 2014… sad!
Also, Facebook didn’t have enough photos of me to make a Year in Review photo collage that everyone else had, so that somewhat bummed me out too. Although I also don’t like Facebook stalking me so… I’m okay with it 🙂
Make $200 in side income – sooooo, exciting news! I have started to side hustle 🙂 Right now, I’m currently freelance writing around the web, but I’m hoping to branch out in blog and content management.
I’ll be unveiling my ‘Work with Me’ page soon, but until then, if you know anyone who needs a budget/finance freelance blogger, or someone who needs a blog or content manager, let me know!
I’m going to aim for $200 this month, and hopefully increase it as 2015 progresses 🙂
Reach 900 pageviews – I really think this can happen in January!
Make Weather Wednesdays goal – Really crossing my fingers on this one. I need to sock away money like crazy, so I’d love to make (and beat) Weather Wednesdays’ goal this month!
Complete 3 modules from Solopreneur course – I’m taking Carrie from Careful Cents’ Solopreneur Finance class, in order to better manage my freelance income and continue to diversify, and so far it looks amazing. I’d love to fully complete 3 lessons from the course this month.
Remember: experiences, not expenses – My baby cousin turns 21 next week, and lucky me gets to spend her birthday with her! (And her sister, my bff) I’m really looking forward to it, but I also need to keep in mind I want to take pictures, have fun experiences, and not buy unnecessary things. Sometimes I get a little spend-crazy when it comes to birthdays, but it’s not about stuff. It’s about family and fun! 🙂
How did your December goals go? Were you able to accomplish everything on your list? Are you incorporating your January goals along with your resolutions, or are you avoiding resolutions entirely this year? 🙂
