Hey everyone! So sorry for the radio silence – I actually didn’t mean to take time off, but I guess I’m glad I did. It seems like a lot of bloggers took the week off, so I’m in good company 🙂
I hope you all have enjoyed the holiday season so far! I can’t believe 2015 is almost here. I’m pretty excited for it, though. I love making resolutions… even if I don’t always stick to them 🙂
I was going to do a Financial Year in Review for you all, but then I started going through my finances and got depressed… can I just say, sometimes being a homeowner is a real money-suck? Okay, so the dishwasher maybe wasn’t a necessity, but then the flooding we had in the house, and now we need to replace our roof (that’s a ~$700 pain in my savings account)… house, you better be worth it!
So instead of a Financial Year in Review, I’m going to do a regular year in review for you! 🙂
Year in Review
Sunburnt Saver is officially 6 months old! Fun fact: before Sunburnt Saver, I had a food blog and, after 3 months, I dreaded posting for it. I am just not a cook, and I don’t know why I ever thought I could write about food!
Not so for this blog… I’ve enjoyed the heck out of it so far and, even though I don’t comment as much on everyone’s blogs as I’d like, I enjoy all the other PF bloggers blogs out there too! People weren’t kidding when they said the PF community is close-knit 🙂
Here are some of my and your favorite posts from Sunburnt Saver this year:
This one is relatively recent, but popular on Pinterest! My Ruthless Gift-Giving Plan.
Actually, this one is also really recent. Are you guys saying my writing is getting better, or that you just really like my Weekly Updates? 😉 My most recent Weekly Update is (so far) the most viewed post this year!
(Second) Most Commented
Since my most commented post was also the most pinned post, the second most commented post of 2014 was my October Recap and November Goals.
Most Popular Guest Post
My post for Erin on Journey to Saving on How to Split Your Household Bills After Moving In Together garnered a lot of reactions from people – both for and against splitting bills when moving in together.
Favorite Blog Posts in the PF-sphere
No round up of mine is complete without a (way too short) list of my favorite blog posts from other PF bloggers. This list is in no way comprehensive, but I’m going to try to list my top 5.
From Young Adult Money, A Match Made in Heaven: Weddings and Travel Rewards. I have (and had) a bunch of weddings to attend in the past 2 years, and DC is so right about weddings and travel rewards going hand in hand! Wish I had figured this out sooner 😉
Melanie from Dear Debt’s interview with Kathleen from Frugal Portland and For Profit Blogging – twofer! I loved this post because it totally reflects what the PF community is about: making friends who share your interests… like budgeting and blogging :). Bonding over finances FTW!
Connie from Savvy with Saving celebrated her 1 Year Blogiversary in July, and Connie’s reasons for starting to blog are basically my reasons too. 🙂 She says it a lot better than I do, though!
Stefanie from The Broke and Beautiful Life posted an amaaaaazing review of Budget Travel: The All-Inclusive. It is my goal to some day, within the next two years, go to an all-inclusive. Not having to study prices on menus and ordering drinks at any time of the day? Sign me up! 🙂
Mel from BrokeGIRLRich does some crazy-comprehensive posts (see: Death Prep 101), but her using Mint: One Week Challenge really takes the cake. It makes me tired reading it, but it does inspire me to buckle down and set up Mint… for real this time!
Special Shout Out
To Erin, from Journey to Saving. Her Being Grateful editions are such a wonderful reminder to reflect on the good in life. It’s so easy to get caught up in complaining, particularly if you work or live with people who like to complain. I definitely have gotten caught up in the complaining trap, so it’s really great to just sit down and say, you know what? There are actually a lot of really good things happening in my life right now. Be grateful, darn it!
On a personal note, Erin has been an amazing friend in the PF-sphere. She was one of the first people to encourage me to continue writing and get my name out there. Extra special thanks to Erin for being such a wonderful person! Can’t wait to meet up with you at FinCon15! 🙂
I’m back from my hiatus, so do expect a post on Thursday – the very last post from me in 2014! 🙂 Have a great week!
