If the world was perfect, we would all be able to fully fund our vacation with an account that always has plenty of money in it. The harsh reality though, is that most of us are just getting ready to start planning for the next vacation. Here is a look at a few ways that you can save money for your trip.
You Need a Plan
You will need to make a decision right now about the amount of money that will be needed for your vacation. Include things like plane tickets if you will be flying, or gas if you will be driving, the cost for the hotel, costs for things like souvenirs, meals, and admissions to parks and or museums. Also, if you will be vacationing on the water, you might look at the cost to charter a boat vs exploring boat loans options and buying your own boat. If you will be on the water quite a bit, boat ownership might be the better option in the long run.
It is important to be able to unwind and relax on occasion. The problem with taking an annual vacation is that they tend to cost a lot of money. If you want to have the ability to take a vacation, but you just don’t have the money to do it, you might want to think about working a bit as a ride share driver to make some of that extra money that you will need. All you will need to do this is your own car, good insurance, a clean driving record, and your car has to be street legal.
Cut Out Extras
One good way that you can save for a summer vacation is to cut out your extras for a bit. You might want to try to save around $50 each week so that you will be able to save enough for that dream vacation trip. You might also spend $4 daily on a latte instead of making your own coffee in the comfort of your own home. This automatically saves $20 each week. You might buy your lunch every day too. If you make your lunch at home and bring it with you every day, you can save as much as $10 on a daily basis. Think about cutting out things like movies, dining out, and even desserts. Can you think of anything else that you might be able to do without for a couple of months?
Get Someone Else to do the Saving for You
Not all of us are good at saving money. If this sounds like you, you can get someone else to do it for you. You can do this online with websites such as SmartyPig.com. These will allow you to select a goal for saving right when you set your account up. Then, you will set up automatic transfers from your bank to that account each month. You will also be able to let your family contribute if they choose to.
Liquidate for a Travel Fund
Surely you know at least one person who plans to rid themselves of some of their stuff by using Craigslist, eBay, 5 Miles, LetGo, or some other website. They might just not have the motivation to get it done. If you set a goal for earning money for a travel fund, this might be just the motivation that you might need to do the same thing. Once you get an account set up with one of those sites, you can just start emptying your home of the things that you no longer need and or want. This can earn you quite a bit of money with a quickness.
If you are more of an old school type, you can also choose to have a yard sale. There are always people looking to pick up good bargains at yard sales.
